KS2 SATs - What Your Child Actually Needs to Know

A clear, parent-friendly summary of what's tested in Year 6 SATs - and the small, steady steps that make the biggest difference.

By Mrs Moss · 8 July 2026

KS2 SATs in Year 6 cover reading, grammar/punctuation/spelling (GPS) and maths. The children who cope best usually have steady habits, not last-minute cramming.

What moves the needle

Reading stamina and vocabulary grow from regular reading. Maths improves with secure times tables, number sense and talking through methods.

Past papers can help later in the year for familiarity — not as a weekly scare tactic in the autumn term.
