KS1 SATs - A Calm Guide for Parents

KS1 SATs are low-key by design, but they can still feel daunting. Here's what they actually involve - and how to keep things relaxed at home.

By Mrs Moss · 1 July 2026

KS1 SATs (usually Year 2) look at reading and maths. Schools use them diagnostically; they should never dominate family life.

How to help at home

Keep reading enjoyable. Ask gentle questions about stories. Play with numbers in everyday life rather than past papers every night.

Sleep, routine and reassurance matter more than extra worksheets. If your child is worried, name the feeling and keep practice short.

Tutoring for KS1

Tutoring can strengthen phonics, comprehension and early number sense so SATs feel like a natural check-in, not a cliff edge. Mrs Moss keeps Year 2 support playful and kind.
